Claeson Louis W., Sr., age
94. Born in Mpls on April 11, 1907, died July 25, 2001. Preceded in death
by his wife of 60 years, Helen and son, John N. Claeson. Survived by son,
Louis W. Claeson, Jr. (Lois); 5 grandchildren, Tom Claeson, John Claeson
(Cindy), Karin Pahs (Steve), Anne and Mary Claeson; 5 great-grandchildren,
Scott, Christopher and David Claeson, Hannah and Andrew Pahs. Also survived
by daughter-in-law, Margaret Claeson; special friends, Alfred Lucas and
Norman Rud.
1932 graduate of Carleton College and earned his Master's
degree from the University of MN in 1934. Teacher extraordinaire, beginning
in Dover, MN, 1934-1937, and ended his career at Mpls Washburn High School,
1937-1974. Even after retirement, he continued to teach the lessons of
life and Shakespeare to young and old until he died. Past President of
the Mpls English Teachers Club. Early member and strong supporter of the
Mpls Federation of Teachers. Founding member of the Teacher Federal Credit
Union and Chairman of the Supervisory Committee for several years. Longtime
fly fisherman, who enjoyed his latter days fishing the west shore of Lake
of the Isles and the Kenilworth Lagoon, sharing fish and stories with
passers-by. Former Secretary of the South Mpls Chapter of the Izaak Walton
League. A gardener of some note, he was famous for strolling the neighborhood
doling out produce.
Relatives, friends and former students are invited to share
in the celebration of Louis' memorable life and career, Sunday, July 29,
3 pm, with visitation one hour before at the Washburn-McReavy Davies Chapel,
2301 Dupont at Hennepin Ave S., Mpls. Private interment Lakewood Cemetery.
Memorials are preferred to Carleton College, or the Nature Conservancy.
