Maryanna Eckberg
Maryanna Eckberg,
age 61, a clinical Psychologist in Berkeley, CA., devoted her career to
helping trauma victims and the victims of political torture, died October
10th after a long illness.
Ms. Eckberg was born March 19, 1938, in Minnesota. She received a doctorate
in child and adult clinical psychology from the University of Minnesota
in 1967 and practiced in Minnesota until moving to the Bay area about
15 years ago. She was a trainer for the Bioenergetics Society of Northern
California and a faculty member at the California Counseling Center. She
was also co-founder of the Healing Center for Survivors of Political Torture
and had worked in El Salvadore with the commission on Human Rights and
the Universidad Jose Simeon Casas. Her recently complete book, ``Traumatic
Shock: The Body In The Treatment of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder'' is
expected to be published soon.
She is survived by her partner, Peter White of Berkeley; a son, Erik Rosekrans
of Portland, OR; a daughter, Kristin Rosekrans of El Savadore; a brother,
Dan Eckberg; and a sister, Joan Eckberg, both of Minneapolis. A memorial
service is planned for Nov. 21st in Berkeley.
