Washburn High School

Class of 1956 - In Memory Of

Virginia McCoy (Williamson)

July 2, 2012

Virginia Louise "Ginny" Williamson, beloved mother and grandmother, business owner, and doll collector, died on July 2, 2012 at her home in Fort Myers, FL. She was born on December 2, 1938 in Wilmington, DE. She grew up in Minneapolis, MN, where she graduated high school and attended the University of Minnesota. She later obtained a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice with honors from the University of Southern Florida.

Ginny met her late husband, Eugene "Gene" Williamson, in Minneapolis. They married in 1959 and moved to International Falls, MN where Gene practiced law and both were active in politics. In 1977, several years after Gene's death, Ginny moved with her children to Fort Myers to be closer to her parents, the late Daniel and Louise McCoy of Cape Coral, FL. Ginny was co-owner of an insurance agency for many years with her dear life partner, Ernest Middleton. Ginny travelled extensively, making trips to Italy, Greece, Alaska, the Caribbean, and the Panama Canal. However, her favorite travels were to the family cottage in Pentwater, MI each summer. Ginny also made many friends over the years in the world of doll collecting.

She is survived by her children: Tom (Kim) Williamson of Chicago, Terri Williamson of Seattle, David Williamson of Fort McCoy, FL., and Diane (Michael) Walcher of North Fort Myers. She leaves five grandchildren: Andrew, Daniel, John, Anastasia and Dartagnan, along with three siblings: Sally Freiler, J. Emilie (Henry) Thomas, and Mick (Jean) McCoy. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her life partner.

A memorial service will be held at Harvey-Engelhardt Funeral Chapel, 1600 Colonial Blvd., Fort Myers FL, on Saturday, July 21 at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Lung Association or the Butterfly Estates of Ft. Myers.
