Karen A. Vezner
Age 61, formerly of Detroit Lakes
Died at Black River Memorial Hospital in Black River Falls, Wis., on Sunday, July 4, 1999.
Karen A. Wesala, daughter of John S. and Lillie Marie Oja Wesala, was born in Minneapolis on May 3, 1938, was raised there, graduated from Washburn High School (Class of 1956) and from Concordia Junior
College in St. Paul.
On Dec. 30, 1960, she and William F. Vezner were married in Minneapolis.
They lived in Mound, Crystal, Lewiston, Mont., Detroit Lakes and Mahnomen before moving to Black River
Falls in 1988. They lived in Detroit Lakes for nine years and at Mahnomen for 13 years.
Mrs. Vezner was employed in the food service department at the MVC Hospital in Mahnomen for six years
and in the food service department at Black River Memorial Hospital for five years.
A member of the Black River Falls Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Evangelical Lutheran Church Women,
she once served as president of the Mahnomen Hospital Auxiliary and also was a former member of the
Black River Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.
Surviving are her husband–William; a daughter–Rebecca (James) Kersting, Plain, Wis.; three sons–William
(Leslie) Vezner Jr., Lewisville, Tex.; John (Jeanne) Vezner, Omaha, Nebr., and Paul (Diane) Vezner,
Black River Falls, Wis.; her mother–Lillie Marie Wesala, Rochester, and three brothers–Edwin (Madeleine)
Wesala, Portland, Ore.; Wayne (Pam) Wesala, Scottsdale, Ariz., and John Wesala, Rochester. There are
nine grandchildren. Preceding Mrs. Vezner in death was her father, who died Aug. 17, 1975.
There will be a memorial service at 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 8, from Black River Falls Evangelical
Lutheran Church and one at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 15, from First Lutheran Church in Mahnomen.
Interment will be at Hillside Memorial Cemetery in Minneapolis, with the Buswell Funeral Home in charge
of arrangements.
